Mount Baruntse (7,129 m) is a thrilling adventure for climbers who wish to summit a 7000-meter peak in Nepal. This majestic mountain is located in the central Khumbu region, just west of the world's giant 8,000-meter peak, Mt. Makalu and slightly east of Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Everest. Mount Baruntse is the most accessible 7000-meter peak in the Khumbu region due to its location and classic beauty.
The south-East Ridge route of Mount Baruntse is a little difficult due to a stiff climb. During the climb, there are difficult sections with an elevation of 50 degrees and an ice cliff, which pose a risk of avalanche. The ascent to the western col with its huge glacial plateau is particularly challenging. For those climbers who have a goal of summitting 8000-meter peaks in the future, Mount Baruntse is considered an ideal preparation. High Magazine’s ‘Mountain Info’ has claimed Mount Baruntse as one of ‘the most beautiful 7,000m peaks in Nepal’.
World-renowned climbers Edmond Hillary and Ship Ton opened the traditional route for climbing Mount Baruntse in 1952. The first successful ascent of Baruntse was made by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow on May 30, 1954. Our Baruntse expedition itinerary is carefully designed to allow all expedition members to properly acclimatize, build sufficient strength and skill for the necessary ascents from and back to base camp before attempting the summit push.
We highly recommend climbers to scale this mountain, especially in the spring season for safety reasons. However, there have been successful summits of Mount Baruntse even in the autumn. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to scale one of the most beautiful 7000-meter peaks in Nepal, and an unforgettable adventure for climbers of all skill levels.
