Mount Manaslu is the world’s eighth highest peak at 8,163m above sea level. It is located about 40 miles east of Annapurna I. The name Manaslu is derived from the Sanskrit word Manasa and can be roughly translated as Mountain of the Spirit.

Climbing Mt. Manaslu is by far difficult and challenging. The expedition trail to Manaslu Base Camp is scenically and culturally most spectacular, passing through villages, valleys, rivers and meadows. Manaslu offers several routes to climbers just because of having topographically favorable long ridges and glaciated valleys along the route.

There needs to be set up four camps in the approach of the Manaslu peak. There are a few stretches of steep climbing and crevasses from Camp I to Camp II, slippery snow climbing starts from Camp II to Camp III and avalanches are threat between Camp III to Camp IV before the summit. Well preparation and prior climbing experience is required to make the summit successful. The first survey of the peak was made by a Japanese expedition in 1952 and the first summit was made by Japanese team in 1956. Manaslu has always been known as a ‘Japanese mountain’ since the Japanese mountaineers attempted to the top.
